Meet Our Veterinarians

Dr. Evelyn Bowden, DVM

Dr. Evelyn Bowden, DVM

Dr. Evelyn Bowden is one of the proud owners of Health & Harmony Animal Hospital. Her Alma Mater is Wittenberg University where she graduated with a B.A. in Biology in 1996. Between undergrad and vet school, she allowed her life experiences to guide her to her next venture, which was to pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine. She graduated from The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009, spent her first three years out of school working for a rural mixed animal practice, then pursued her dream of owning her own veterinary practice. She feels fortunate that Dr. Kim West joined her in this pursuit, as they have been devoted friends for almost 20 years! Creating a welcoming, calm, supportive environment by communicating openly with clients and going the extra mile to provide comfort to our patients has been their vision and we hope that you will experience this coming to our clinic.

Dr. Bowden shares her life and home first and foremost with her husband, Chuck, who is a Union Pipefitter of almost 30 years! Her stepson, Zach, is 20 and on his way to taking on and figuring out the world. They also have 3 rescue kitties (Bakey, Pixi, and Buddy) and 2 rescue dogs (Josie and Loki) who keeps them very busy! Their first Doberman (Tanner) will forever remain their hearts.

Dr. Kimberly West, DVM

Dr. Kimberly West, DVM

Dr. Kimberly West graduated from The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and has worked in various small animal veterinary hospitals and animal shelters within the Columbus area.

One of her passions is animal rescue which comes almost inherently; she has many inspiring stories, even about her own pets!

Dr. West is also excited to share the benefits of acupuncture and herbals in a more integrative approach to veterinary medicine, allowing more choices for the care of your animals.

Anyone that has met Dr. West knows that she has never met a stranger!  This is evident in how deeply rooted she is in Columbus, especially within her own neighborhood of Grandview Heights.

Although her roots are in Grandview Heights, those roots extend all the way to Beavercreek, Colorado, where she and her husband, Blake, share time together snowboarding and hiking with their two dogs, Tupelo Honey and Fruitbat. You can now find Dr. West’s darling 3-year-old son, Michael, romping through her house as if he’d always been there!

Dr. Molly Cassandra, DVM

Dr. Molly Cassandra, DVM

Dr. Molly Cassandra received her undergraduate degree from Miami University of Ohio in Zoology and went on to the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University, graduating in 2007. After graduation, she and her husband, Dr. Kevin Cox, moved to the Pacific Northwest and lived in the Seattle area for several years. She started her career in a small animal practice in Bellevue, WA, while helping her husband manage and start two small animal hospitals in the Redmond, WA area. Dr. Cassandra made her way back to the Columbus area in 2010 and became a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Community Practice Department at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She joined the Health and Harmony team in 2017. She is very excited to provide exceptional medical care to pets within her local community.

Dr. Cassandra enjoys preventive medicine, internal medicine and providing behavioral support. She became certified in Low-Stress Handling for patients in 2016. Dr. Cassandra resides locally and lives with her husband, daughter, Josephine, cat, “Bluebelle,” and dogs, “Willy” and “Stan.” She enjoys spending time traveling, cooking, being active and enjoying the outdoors.

Dr. Sarah Erwin, DVM

Dr. Sarah Erwin, DVM

Dr. Sarah Erwin completed her undergraduate studies and veterinary school at The Ohio State University. After graduation in 2008, she worked for a year at a small animal general practice in Columbus before following her passion for emergency medicine. Dr. Erwin worked for 24-hour emergency clinics in both Dayton and Columbus for the next 10 years before returning to general practice in July 2019. Dr. Erwin enjoys preventive medicine, emergency medicine, and cardiology, as well as behavior. She is excited to join the Health & Harmony team and looks forward to developing lasting relationships with the clients and their pets.

Dr. Erwin resides locally in Westerville with her husband, Marcus, and their 3 pets: a yellow Labrador named Dizzy and two cats, Duff and Axl. She has competed in triathlons in the past and enjoys spending time relaxing, swimming, and enjoying the outdoors.

Meet Our Management Team

Heidi Snell, RVT

Heidi Snell, RVT

Practice Manager

Heidi has been part of the Health & Harmony family since 2013 – initially as an assistant, then as Lead RVT and now as our Practice Manager. She is originally from a small resort town in the green mountains of Southern Vermont, where she got her start in veterinary medicine as a teenager at her local humane society. After attending Bradford’s Vet Tech Institute, she returned home to work for her humane society once again, this time as their Feline Specialist. Burdened with the ever present sense of wanderlust, Heidi accepted a job in Utah opening a new spay/neuter clinic for Best Friends Animal Society. After spending a year in Utah and some time in Massachusetts working in veterinary oncology, her travels have brought her back to the Midwest. Because of her young start in the field, veterinary medicine runs in her veins and she remains just as passionate about the field today as she did years ago. Heidi’s special interests are shelter medicine, feline medicine & behavior, neonatal intensive care, anesthesia and surgery. In her personal life, Heidi’s passions are music and travel- which she often combines when traveling the U.S. for various concerts and music festivals. On these long road trips, it’s not uncommon for her to pull dogs and cats from high kill shelters in West Virginia & Kentucky and transport them for adoption through her hometown shelter in Vermont.

Heidi lives in Columbus and shares her home with her two monsters; an adorable chirping Sphynx named Chiri, originally seized in a hoarding investigation, and an orphaned kitten, known as Tobias or TJ, she hand raised from just a couple weeks old.

David Huff

David Huff

Operations Coordinator

In November 2017, we welcomed David to the H&H family as one of our wonderful Veterinary Technician Assistants for just over a year before he pursued another endeavor. We were thrilled when the stars aligned, and we were able to bring him back on our team in June 2020 as our Operations Coordinator. David originally grew up in a small town outside of Columbus and followed his passion for Ohio University, where he studied music production. After spending a few years in Chicago working in IT, he made his way back to Columbus to manage his family’s garage door business. Beyond animal rescue, David is a multi-instrumentalist who loves vintage audio gear, classic horror films, old cars, and podcasting.

David lives in Gahanna with his wife, Mary, and their animals. They are Mylie’s proud owners, an Italian Greyhound mix, and Jan, a greyhound, who were both adopted from local greyhound rescues! Hughey is the final piece of the puzzle, often being found pouncing on his canine counterparts and keeping them in line!

Kelly Sample

Kelly Sample

Inventory Manager

Most of our clients will already know Kelly, as she has been the face of our front desk since March 2014. Kelly was born in Syracuse, NY and joined the Air Force straight out of high school. After serving 5 years, she was honorably discharged and moved to Columbus a few years later. Kelly followed her lifelong love of animals to Citizens For Humane Action Animal Shelter where she began volunteering, before being hired. Kelly holds a Dog Training Certificate from Animal Behavior College, which makes sense, given her special interest is canine behavior and understanding how their brains work and learn. When Kelly finds time away from the clinic, she loves traveling to see live music, especially her favorite band, Twiddle. Moreover, Kelly loves being in nature hiking through forests with her pets when she can find the time.

Kelly lives with her husband Tim in Columbus. They share their home with the best white boxer around, Bean, who was adopted from CHA after being brought in as a stray in 2012. She can often be found snoring behind the front desk in the afternoons. Turtle the cat, another rescue from the streets, joined the family in 2019.

Meet Our Client Care Team

Anneliese Bonn

Anneliese Bonn

Client Care Specialist

In October 2019, Anneliese came aboard our team after several years as a loyal client of Health & Harmony. She is a true Columbus native, growing up in Clintonville & Grandview before attending the Ohio State University with a major in environmental science and a minor in biology. After she graduated, she worked as a server and spent a month volunteering to rehabilitate exotic wildlife (mainly sloths, monkeys & parrots) in Costa Rica. This life-changing experience helped guide Anneliese to pursue the veterinary profession and brought her into her first role in a veterinary hospital at H&H. She has a special interest in behavioral science and loves the challenge of finding better ways to communicate with animals as well as how to understand them better. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, painting, drawing, and traveling to the tropics for snorkeling and scuba diving.

Anneliese lives in Grandview with her boyfriend, Will, and their two Boston terriers, Felix & Olive. Felix brings a calming energy to the home with his constant lounging, while Olive is a known spaz who keeps things wild and fun – truly a perfect pair!

Heather Harshfield

Heather Harshfield

Client Care Specialist

Heather is the beam of sunshine you will find behind our front desk most days! She joined H&H in July 2020 after years of working as a daycare director, a nanny, and managing bars/restaurants. Heather has always strived to do meaningful work and make a difference in others’ lives – pairing this with her lifelong passion for animals; she has found that veterinary medicine allows her to accomplish this! Her special interests are in preventative care, alternative medicine, behavior, and she enjoys volunteering with rescue organizations. Outside of work, Heather spends her time crafting, thrifting/antiquing, exploring new places to find hidden gems, and she loves spending time in nature by gardening & bird watching.

Heather grew up locally and lives in Grandview with her husband and their motley crew of rescued pets. Her ‘ride or die’, Keke, is a sweet n’ sassy 16yr old pomeranian, and her gentle giant, Edward, is a 12yr old husky mix. Keeping them on their toes is that crazy ball of energy: Penny-Potty-Poo-Pants, a young pit bull mix who believes she is a lap dog. And to round out the crew, Callie Cat joined their family when she was left behind by previous tenants and came with their house.

Emma Miller

Emma Miller

Client Care Specialist & Veterinary Technician Assistant

In October 2019, we welcomed Emma to our team while she is on her journey to becoming a veterinarian. Originally from a rural farm in Illinois, she moved to Columbus to attend OSU and graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Zoology. Emma is currently working towards a Master’s degree in biology to help prepare her for vet school. Her passion lies with exotic and wildlife animals after an internship at the Columbus Zoo in 2017. Since then, she has volunteered to work with elephants & rhinos in South Africa as well as dolphins, sea lions & whale sharks in the Sea of Cortez. In her free time, she bartends on the weekends and enjoys working out, horseback riding, cooking, boating & camping in the summers.

Emma lives in Columbus with her cat, Halle. She was rescued from a local shelter after surviving Hurricane Harvey and being transported from Texas. While she may be a bit of a diva, she is an absolute sweetheart with (arguably) the fluffiest tail in the history of the world.

Meet Our Medical Team

Denise Elshoff, RVT

Denise Elshoff, RVT

Lead Veterinary Technician

Denise has been one of our Registered Veterinary Technicians since January of 2016. She previously worked at Noak’s Ark Veterinary Hospital and OSU-VMC-Dublin in their surgery & anesthesia department. Before her dog inspired her to pursue veterinary medicine, Denise taught music theory and violin, and she later worked at PetPeople while pursuing her Veterinary Technology degree. She holds degrees in music theory from Yale and OSU as well as a degree in Veterinary Technology from Columbus State. Denise’s special interests include small animal anesthesia, dentistry, and behavior, which allow her to use her skills to the fullest extent.

Denise lives in Powell with her dogs, Mugsy and Cricket. Mugsy is a happy, high energy dog who loves agility and hiking. They share their home with Cricket, who Denise’s parents adopted when she moved to Missouri because of how similar Cricket is to Mugsy.

Meghan Howell, RVT

Meghan Howell, RVT

Registered Veterinary Technician

Meghan joined the H&H family in January 2020 after spending nearly a decade working as a Registered Veterinary Technician at her hometown practice in Granville. Though she got an early introduction to the veterinary world at only 11 years of age, she followed her creative passions and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in fine arts before obtaining her veterinary technology degree from Bradford’s Vet Tech Institute. Meghan loves all things in veterinary medicine and finds every aspect just as interesting as the next! Outside of animals, she is a talented artist in pencil drawings and wood burning art, particularly pet portraits. Meghan is a true lover of the Earth and spends much of her free time gardening and raising chickens at her urban, non-profit farm.

Meghan lives in Columbus with her partner and her furry companions: a Boston terrier named Mac and two cats, Moose & Dean. The latest addition to the family, a young black kitten named Poe, snuck through a hole in the wall and made himself right at home – boy, did he choose the perfect house!

Kimberly Sparks, RVT

Kimberly Sparks, RVT

Registered Veterinary Technician

We welcomed Kim to the H&H family in July 2020 – right in the midst of all the pandemic related chaos. Despite these additional challenges, her nearly 18 years in the veterinary field allowed her to join our team with an enviable grace. Her love of horses may have initially sparked her interest in veterinary medicine and led her to obtaining an Equine Business Management Degree from Otterbein along with her Veterinary Technology degree from Columbus State. Kim quickly discovered her passion for dentistry and spent 14 years in dentistry-focused hospitals. In order to broaden her skills and knowledge, she spent the last 5 years working in oncology at MedVet before deciding to return to general practice medicine. To this day, dentistry remains one of her special interests as well as all things in the realm of our feisty felines! In her spare time, Kim enjoys music, theater, reading, crafting and spending as much time with horses as she can. She also loves to travel and her favorite place thus far as Northern Ireland.

Kim lives in Dublin with her crew of kitties! She rescued a pair of brothers, Chaos & Mayhem, from a horse barn and had a stray, Toc, that decided to move in to her home from the streets. Her cat Ophelia had been abandoned at MedVet with a broken leg and Tobie was saved from a humane society euthanasia list for a laundry list of medical problems which Kim was happy to take on!

Ali Krouse

Ali Krouse

Veterinary Technician Assistant

Ali started her journey into veterinary medicine at H&H as a Veterinary Technician Assistant in September 2015, where her mother had been a client of ours since the very beginning! Ali’s mom started and still maintains a very successful pet sitting business in Dublin, which is where Ali developed her passion for working with animals. Ali holds an Associate of Science degree and has volunteered at Franklin County Dog Shelter in the past. In her spare time, Ali loves painting, helping her mom run her business and spending time with her cat.

Ali lives in Dublin with her cat, Kiki, who was rescued as a stray 10 years ago. Even though Kiki only enjoys about 2 pets per hour, they spend many happy nights together out on the patio.

Morgan Logsdon

Morgan Logsdon

Veterinary Technician Assistant

Morgan is our singing beam of sunshine that joined our team in May 2020 after working 10 years in the food industry. In most photos of her as a child, there is one constant: dogs. Morgan decided to finally follow her passion and jumped headfirst into her first veterinary position with us. She is a natural with our patients and has a soft spot for all scruffy and fluffy pups. In her free time, Morgan loves photography and has recently found a knack for gardening on her family’s farm.

Morgan lives locally and has three fur children of her own. Scout is the eldest who’s known for being a distinguished and headstrong gentleman. Flynn is a wiry and loving rescue from Muskingham County. Rhett is her baby, a southern belle rescued from the midlands of South Carolina. She’s also a proud aunt of four human children, two canine children, and one feline child.

Courtney Adams

Courtney Adams

Veterinary Technician Assistant

Courtney came to us in September 2019 after moving to Columbus to attend veterinary school at The Ohio State University. Originally from Maine, she attended Clemson University for her undergraduate studies before moving west to Utah for 5 years. Before Health & Harmony, Courtney worked in a few different small animal practices getting experience in the industry in client care and patient care positions. A lifelong love for animals has driven her to be a strong advocate for animal welfare and the human-animal bond. Because of this, Courtney’s special interest in behavioral medicine and as a soon to be veterinarian has made it her own personal mission to help improve the relationships people have with their pets to reduce the relinquishment of animals to shelter in this country. Outside of all things furry, Courtney chooses to volunteer her time as a blog editor for Veteran Companion Animal Services Charity and to foster cats/kittens through a local rescue. When she has a few moments to herself, she loves adventuring outdoors with her dogs, relaxing with yoga, or reading a good book while cuddling her cat.

Courtney lives in Columbus with her boyfriend, Josh, and their furry counterparts. Two goofy labs, Moose & Jackson, can be found with their tennis balls and feline companion, Jasper, who was rescued as a kitten in South Carolina.

Ashley Brumfield

Ashley Brumfield

Veterinary Technician Assistant

In October 2020, Ashley joined our team after she moved to the area looking for a change of pace and to be closer to family. She strongly feels veterinary medicine to be her calling which led her to spend most of her life volunteering with rescues and working as a dog groomer before spending a few years at an animal hospital in Chicago. Ashley finds herself fascinated with the internal intricacies of how animal bodies function and holds a special interest in internal medicine after previously working closely with a veterinary ultrasonographer. In her personal life, she enjoys architecture photography, interior design and has been a dancer since she was just 2 years old!

Ashley lives in Victorian Village with her cat, Edie, who came to her from a feral colony while working at her previous hospital. She affectionately refers to her as a ‘sour patch kid’ – first she’s sour, then she’s sweet!
